Front End Developer

Position Overview:
Nationwide IT Services is looking for programmers with a keen eye for design for the position of front end developer supporting the U.S. Geological Survey(USGS), Water Mission Area (WMA) Enterprise Technology Office (ETO). This position requires experience using modern, front end web development tools, techniques, and methods for the creation and deployment of user-facing interfaces. Is comfortable working in an agile and lean environment to routinely deploy changes. Primarily responsible for: -Front end web development using modern techniques and frameworks (e.g., HTML5, CSS3, CSS frameworks like LESS and SASS, Responsive Design, Twitter Bootstrap) -JavaScript development using modern standards, including strict mode compliance, modularization techniques and tools, and frameworks and libraries (e.g., jQuery, MV* frameworks such as Backbone.js and Ember.js, Vue.js, D3)
Front end developers are required to work in teams alongside back end developers, graphic designers, and user experience designers to ensure all elements of web creation are consistent. This requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Translate systems requirements into application prototypes
  • Plan, design, and implement user interfaces and data processing applications -Uses and defines software design best practices 
  • Consuming RESTful APIs -Using and working in team environments that use agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Lean)
  • Use of version control systems, specifically Git and GitLab
  • Developing features to enhance the user experience
  • Ensuring Section 508 Compliance
  • Ensuring web design is optimized for smartphones
  • Building reusable code for future use
  • Using and working with open source solutions and community 
  • Optimizing web pages for maximum speed and scalability
  • Creating views and templates in full-stack frameworks like Rails, Express, or Django 
  • Creating web layouts from static images.
  • Write Infrastructure as Code, use serverless framework deployment approaches, manage configuration, use cloud-native monitoring approaches
  • Identify and correct weaknesses in critical performance parameters
  • Coordinate the demonstration of new and enhanced applications 
  • Assess the feasibility of adopting new software design technologies within the current systems environment 
Job Qualifications:
  • Degree in computer science or related field.
  • 3-10 years Development experience, with most of that working in Development Teams
  • Understanding of key design principles.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.
  • Understanding of server-side CSS.
  • Experience with graphic design applications such as Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design.
  • Understanding of SEO principles.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
